Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Treatment
This amazing procedure provides the rejuvenation you need to improve your skin and hair follicles by using your blood’s natural healing ability or assisting with an injured area.
As the name suggests, PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma is a combination of the blood components of plasma and platelets.
PRP is an autologous (from own self) preparation of platelets obtained from an individual’s whole blood after centrifugation to remove the red blood cells.
It is also enriched by a full complement of clotting factors and a range of growth factors (GF), chemokines, cytokines, and other plasma proteins, which normally aid in wound healing.
This makes them exponentially more effective than synthetic growth factors in rejuvenating our skin and hair follicles.
Studies have shown that adult mesenchymal stem cells, osteoblasts, fibroblasts, endothelial cells and epidermal cells express the cell membrane receptors that bind to the GFs present in PRP.
This leads to activation of the above cells, enhancing tissue regeneration and healing process, and removing necrotic (dead) tissues.
PRP has a crucial role as it is directly related to the proliferation of mesenchymal stem cells and fibroblasts and the production of type I collagen, which all have an essential role in tissue remodelling.
When compared to current mainstream aesthetics treatments such as anti-wrinkle injections and fillers, PRP differs in several ways:
- PRP is natural and harmless. It is made from a sample of your blood, without any additives, so there is no risk of an allergic reaction.
- PRP does not work by reducing the movement of the muscles of facial expression, so it will not result in paralysis.
- Its effects last longer. The results may take several weeks to develop; they last longer than Botox or fillers.
- Drink plenty of water and eat healthily before the treatment.
- Do NOT consume large amounts of alcohol for at least 24 hours before treatment.
- Avoid vigorous physical activity or exercise for 24 hours.
- Vitamin E and fish oil tablets should be avoided 2-3 days before your treatment as they can increase bruising.
- If you are coming for Hair Loss Treatment, please wash your hair and dry it 1 hour before your appointment.
- Patients must follow the ‘After Care’ plan based on their treatment.
- If experiencing any localized pain, can take simple analgesics.
- Avoid direct ultraviolet exposure (sun & Solariums) for 2-5 days.
- Avoid intensive cardio, exercise or gymnasium regimens for 2-5 days.
- Avoid excessively hot showers, bathing, spas or sauna for 2-5 days.
