Intravenous (IV) infusion is a procedure used to administer fluids, medications directly into the bloodstream via a cannula inserted into a vein, typically in the hand or arm.

IV therapy may be used where oral administration is not appropriate or when controlled delivery is clinically indicated. It is commonly used in a range of healthcare settings, including the management of dehydration, nutritional deficiencies, infection, and other medical conditions.

During treatment, patients are monitored to minimise the risk of complications such as infection, infiltration, or phlebitis. Standard infection control procedures and ongoing assessment are undertaken to support patient safety throughout the infusion process.

Iron Infusion

Administered for the management of iron deficiency where oral supplementation is not suitable or has been ineffective, in accordance with clinical indications.

Antibiotic Therapy

Intravenous antibiotics may be provided when oral treatment is not appropriate and parenteral therapy is clinically indicated.

Fluid Replacement

IV fluids may be administered to support hydration and electrolyte balance in cases of dehydration or fluid loss.
